ON THE MENU: WHAT’S OPENED AND CLOSED ON THE LOCAL RESTAURANT SCENE
Here's a list of what has come, gone and changed in Hamilton and Burlington in May.
Launched & opening soon
Boom Scorch (187 King St. E., Hamilton). Jamaican Halal cuisine in the heart of Hamilton’s International Village, just opened on May 2. Fried snapper, fried king fish, lamb chops, pepper shrimp, and curry shrimp are all made fresh when you order. IG: @boomscorch
Dragon Place (2070 Rymal Rd. E., Hamilton) A new spot in the Hannon area offering up Canadian-Chinese fare like chicken balls, egg rolls, beef with broccoli and honey garlic spare ribs. IG: @dragonplacecuisine
Hot & Juicy (990 King St. W., Hamilton) Takeout spot in the heart of Westdale Village, opened by the owner of Mikel Coffee, with a simple menu of burgers, fries, salads, and kids favourites. There’s a vegan burger option, and sweet potato fries, too. IG: @hot_n_juicy._
Paloma TNT (21 Augusta St. Hamilton) A tacos & tequila tavern with a patio overlooking the Corktown promenade, with a menu of both traditional and non-traditional tacos. FB: @palomarestham
Peach Coffee (297 Dundas St. E., Waterdown). Opened at the beginning of May inside lifestyle boutique Bungalo Beach in Waterdown. Part of a beloved local coffee chain with three locations in Oakville and Burlington, Waterdown’s location offers plenty of beachy vibes and patio seating. IG: @peach_coffee_co
Tezgah (3040 New St., Burlington) This Turkish-Italian fusion gourmet burger and wood-fired pizza business built up a following as a food trailer before venturing into a brick and mortar. IG: @tezgahgourmet
Rebranding & evolving
Diana’s Pizza (263 Kenilworth Ave. N., Hamilton) Beloved neighbourhood pizza joint moved across the street, and has been under renovations for several months, but has recently opened its doors again.
Slye Fox (2537 Hamilton Regional Rd. 56, Binbrook) The pub with the “wonderful atmosphere to enjoy with family, friends and neighbours” has just added a large patio in time for summer, perfect for listening to the regular live music. FB: @Slye Fox Binbrook
Closed & closing
Bring Me Some (Concession Street, Hamilton). Owners Celina and Kerry announced the closure of the restaurant, hoping that it will be back “bigger, better and stronger and hopefully franchised??!!!” For now they will be focusing on their second business venture, Nonno’s, Hamilton’s only vegan butcher, located in the Hamilton Farmers’ Market.
Concession Pizza (Concession Street, Hamilton) Google lists this business as “temporarily closed” but a new sign has recently appeared announcing the arrival of Red Stone Pizza, with signs of renovations nearing completion.
The Parlour (Ottawa Street, Hamilton). The Concession Street location will continue, but the original location on Ottawa Street is closing. Owners posted on Instagram that after nearly three years, “we have made the tough decision to pass the torch & will not be renewing our lease. Our last day of scooping on Ottawa Street will be on Sunday, May 26.”
