Theatre Aquarius releases video from upcoming musical
‘New Orleans is Sinking’ is the first glimpse of music from the upcoming It’s a Good Life if You Don’t Weaken.
Be among the first to experience “New Orleans Is Sinking,” the first song released from the highly anticipated world-premiere musical It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken, featuring the iconic music of The Tragically Hip.
The song debuts as a first-look video, offering an exclusive preview of this powerful new Canadian musical.
It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken immerses audiences in a moving original story set to the timeless songs of Kingston’s The Hip, capturing the raw energy, poetic lyricism, and unmistakable spirit that have become central to Canada’s musical identity.
Set in 2002, the story follows Waleed, an exiled journalist who arrives in Canada and unexpectedly falls for Kate, the owner of a local music store. Their connection is immediate and undeniable — but when circumstances shift, they must confront duty, uncertainty, and what truly matters, and where they each belong.

The production features beloved songs by The Tragically Hip, including “Bobcaygeon,” “Ahead by a Century,” “New Orleans Is Sinking,” “Wheat Kings,” “Grace, Too,” “Blow at High Dough,” and “Courage.”
The cast includes Rebecca Auerbach, Dharma Bizier, Michelle Bouey, Karim Butt, Sameer Cash, Alyssa Curto, Brandon McGibbon, Kevin McLachlan, Ali Momen, Kale Penny, Talia Schlanger, and Tahirih Vejdani.
The production is directed by Theatre Aquarius artistic director Mary Francis Moore, and features Bob Foster handling orchestrations and music supervision, Marc Kimelman as choreographer, playwrights Ahmed Moneka & Jesse LaVercombe, Richard Evans as music director / keyboards, Levon Ichkhanian as music coordinator, Scott Penner as set designer, Joyce Padua as costume designer, Jason Hand as lighting sesigner, anf Ranil Sonnadara as sound designer.

It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken was developed in partnership with Theatre Aquarius and Thousand Islands Playhouse, with additional development at The Creative School Chrysalis at Toronto Metropolitan University and in collaboration with the National Creation Fund at Canada’s National Arts Centre.
