Patio pleasures in Hamilton, Burlington

One of the newer spots on the popular Augusta Street is Plank Resto Bar. Modelled after the big sister restaurant in Oakville, Plank serves in-season tapas and appetizer-style dishes that are great for sharing with friends. The real stand-out with Plank is the rooftop patio – known just as "The Rooftop.” With great views of the city, a plethora of creative cocktails to choose from and a brand new food menu specific to The Rooftop, how can you go wrong?

Bangkok Spoon in Dundas is best known for authentic Thai food. In the west end of downtown Dundas, is the neighbourhood favourite Betula Restaurant. In addition to a fabulous interior dining atmosphere, Betula has very recently launched an outdoor patio. The outdoor patio has a casual, comfortable feel with picnic tables; a perfect place to spend an evening with friends or for a date night. While dining outdoors, try choice dishes like the tamari garden slaw or the Dynamo fried chicken.

Another spot to get some sunshine on the popular summer hangout of Augusta Street is The Ship. Known for an extensive Ontario beer menu, married alongside fish and chips, fried chicken, seafood dishes and decadent charbroiled burgers cooked to perfection.The Ship – front or back patio – gives you the ultimate Hamilton summer patio experience from the dining and drinks to the atmosphere. Located in the Ancaster BIA, the Coach and Lantern not only is a great place to spend a summery day, it is full of rich history. Between two of the oldest buildings in Ancaster is the Coach and Lantern courtyard. This spot could be called a hidden gem to those not in the know, but for many Ancaster folks, this is a go-to patio. The stone flanked courtyard has lots of shady spots and greenery, it makes it a great spot to enjoy mouth-watering pub classics and an ale or two.

Joe Dog's Gasbar Grill is a mainstay of the Burlington community. For over 25 years, they have been a place for Burlingtonians to gather to enjoy cold brews and cocktails, a comfort food-filled menu, and beautiful patios with a tiki bar-style decor. We would be remiss if we did not mention the extremely popular Barangas on the Beach. As the name suggests, this Hamilton cornerstone restaurant is located right along the beachfront. On the east end of the Hamilton beach strip, the Barangas patio is like something out of a tropical vacation. Alongside those spectacular views, scrumptious Greek dishes are served, such as chicken souvlaki, moussaka, keftedes meatballs, Greek dips and so much more. There is something for everyone to enjoy, food and drink-wise.

Bernie's Tavern is a Crown Point West neighbourhood hotspot. This restaurant, close to Ottawa Street on Cannon, knows comfort food and does it well. Serving dishes like Caesar salad, burgers, beef on weck, pan pizzas and more, Bernie's food menu feels like a familiar hug. The patio here is much the same, a comfortable spot to enjoy those hearty dishes that we know and love from Bernie's Tavern. At Downtown Bistro in Burlington, the patio is small but mighty and a great spot for people-watching under the shade of the trees. Radius may be in a new location but their patio still reigns supreme! Radius, now located on the cobblestoned Hess Street South, continues to be a welcoming patio spot for Hamiltonians. Located inside a 1896 heritage home off Highway 5 and surrounded by countryside, Shy's Place is a great stop for those looking to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city. Shy's has a plethora of delicious menu items like pepper steak fettuccine, street corn, peach & bacon pizza, mushroom risotto and much more. There is also a weekend brunch.
